Understanding Platelet-Rich Plasma

Most solutions for ailing joints involve surgical techniques where risks are higher and recovery time can be long and tedious. But at Bioscience High Performance, we’re putting your own stem cells to work for you – providing alternatives to invasive procedures. Many of our patients suffer from arthritic joints including tendinitis and sports injuries, many of which can be treated with our simple solutions for platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used regularly for several years. The procedure takes only about 30 minutes and involves injecting PRP into the patient’s area of injury and speeding healing. Platelets – obtained by a simple blood draw from the patient – are tiny cells containing thousands of growth factors that control and regulate the natural healing process by recruiting stem cells to the injured site. Once the blood is extracted, it is spun in a centrifuge to obtain the highest concentration of nutrients. These concentrated growth factors are then injected at the site of injury or pain, creating natural healing over the next two to three months.

PRP therapy can be used for a variety of injuries caused by wear and tear on the joints. In some instances, we combine the elements of PRP therapy with stem cells, and the overall outcome has been incredible for the future health of our patients.
